Scouting Support for Newtown Tragedy
We all watched with horror the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook on Friday that claimed the life of 20 innocent children and 6 wonderful, heroic teachers.
It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we share that two of the children lost were new Tiger Cubs in Cub Scout Pack 170: Chase Kowalski and Benjamin Wheeler. Three other families in the Pack lost children at the school, and Tiger Cub Den Leader Peter Baressi was a First Responder hero who stayed with the families throughout this ordeal. Victoria Soto, one of the hero teachers, was an Explorer as a youth in Stratford EMS Post 4911.
Chase and Benjamin, two would-be Eagle Scouts, and all those lost Friday will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
Scouting families across the Council, across the country and even around the world are asking the same question everyone is: What can we do?
As a Scouting community, we come together especially in support of the Kowalski and Wheeler families. The Pack 170 leadership has asked the council to set up a Memorial Fund to support the five families and donations can be made out to “Pack 170 Memorial Fund” c/o Connecticut Yankee Council, PO Box 32, Milford, CT 06461. They are working with Newtown Savings Bank to establish this fund.
In an effort to assist the families, Connecticut Yankee Council will collect cards and letters which can also be addressed to “Pack 170” c/o the Connecticut Yankee Council, PO Box 32, Milford, CT 06461.
Perhaps the most important thing we can do is to keep all these families in our thoughts and prayers and remember these brave children and heroic teachers.

Pocumtuc Lodge Fall Fellowship
The Pocumtuc Lodge’s annual fall fellowship was an exciting time. Those in attendance had fun playing thrilling games, awesome activities and fantastic food. All the games and activities were based off of the Hunger Games, and it was a time to remember. We played touch football. An amazing game of that for sure. We also did a lot of COPE activities and rock climbing. Our LEC on Saturday evening we affirmed our next event in February is to be a Star Wars themed event entitled Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Fellowship.
Section NE-2A Project LEAP

This event will bring together all our brothers in our section for a day of training, team building and great fellowship! Click attending on our event page on facebook if you plan on being there!
Northeast Region Launches the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund
Hurricane Sandy caused lots of damage all across the Northeast Region, and we, as Arrowmen, feel that we need to help. In addition to homes being affected, Scout camps across the region have also suffered severe damage. Many camps are closed until further notice as it is too soon for the extent of the damage and destruction to even be assessed.
Your Region Key 3 is calling upon individual Arrowmen, Lodges, and Sections to join us in our aggressive campaign to raise money that will be awarded to lodges to help their councils complete projects at their camps. We believe that the powerful combination of money and manpower from members of the Order of the Arrow can overcome any devastation that Sandy left behind. This money will be awarded in a process similar to the National OA Service Grants.
Our goal is to raise at least $20,000, and we strongly believe that we can do more if everyone helps in some way. We are calling it Scouts Helping Scouts, because that’s what we are all about.
